You’ll need: coffee filters (1 per snowflake), scissors, scrap paper (to protect your work surface), watercolors, paintbrush, water.

Fold one coffee filter in half. Fold the half in thirds. Then fold that in half, as shown.

Use scissors to cut the outside edge and some simple shapes from the folded edge. Don’t worry about messing up– experiment with different cuts until you like what you see!

Open/unfold your snowflake and lay it flat on the scrap paper.

Paint your snowflake with watercolors. As you paint, notice how the color diffuses, or spreads out and softens.

Let your snowflake dry. Glue it to white paper or hang it in a window as a suncatcher.
